English|

Q:App

HapticMusic — Support

HapticMusic turns a song's beat, dynamics, and mood into vibration and light. If you run into a problem, please check the answers below first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why is there no sound?

A: HapticMusic is designed primarily for deaf and hard-of-hearing users, so it works with vibration and visuals alone. If you do want sound, check these in order: 1) the Ring/Silent switch on the side of your iPhone; 2) the media volume level; 3) whether "Play Sound" has been turned off under Settings → Sound. Note that Slow Mode mutes audio automatically — that is by design.

Q: Why is there no vibration?

A: Haptics require a vibration motor (Taptic Engine). Please confirm two things: 1) you are using a real device — the Simulator and some older models do not support haptics, and the switches under Settings → Haptics will be greyed out with a notice; 2) "Haptic Vibration" is turned on under Settings → Haptics.

Q: How do I import my own music?

A: Swipe up from the bottom of the main screen to open the playlist, then tap "Import Music / Video" and pick an audio or video file from the system file picker (common formats such as mp3, m4a, mov, and mp4 are supported). If you choose a video, the audio track is extracted automatically first. All analysis runs entirely on your device, and imported tracks stay in your library for next time.

Q: I got "no audio track, cannot analyze" when importing a video?

A: The video file you selected does not contain an audio track, so no music data can be generated from it. Please choose a video that has sound, or select an audio file instead.

Q: Why do imported tracks have no lyrics?

A: Word-by-word lyrics require a dedicated timing track that must be supplied along with the song; they cannot be generated from audio alone. Imported tracks therefore offer beat, loudness, and mood visualization and haptics, but no lyric subtitles. These tracks are marked with a "Local" tag in the list to distinguish them from built-in songs.

Q: What can I see when I swipe between views?

A: Swipe left and right on the main screen to switch views: ambient particles (drifting gently with the music), the loudness wave (a curve along the bottom of the screen that rises and falls with volume), and the pitch spectrum (low frequencies at the bottom, high at the top, with energy moving between bands). When nothing is playing, the pitch view shows 8 idle circles.

Q: A view is missing, or the screen looks empty?

A: Under Settings → Visuals you can turn "Frequency Spectrum", "Loudness Wave", and "Beat Flash" on or off individually. A disabled view no longer appears in the swipeable pages; if you disable all of them, the number of pages decreases accordingly. Re-enable the ones you need under Settings → Visuals.

Q: Beat Flash is uncomfortable to look at?

A: "Beat Flash" makes the whole screen flash once per beat. If you are sensitive to flashing light, or it feels unpleasant, please turn it off under Settings → Visuals. It is off by default.

Q: What are "Slow Mode" and "Loop"?

A: Both are under Settings → Playback.

Slow Mode: plays at half speed, stretching the gaps between accents so you can take in the rhythm and melody one at a time. Audio is muted automatically in this mode, focusing on vibration and visuals.

Loop: replays the current track from the beginning after it ends, handy for experiencing the same song repeatedly. On by default.

Q: Does the app collect my data?

A: Music playback, audio analysis, and visualization all happen entirely on your device, and the music files you import are never uploaded. Device information and usage data are collected through the Umeng SDK for analytics and crash diagnostics. The app contains no ads. See the Privacy Policy in the app for details.

Q: The visuals and vibration don't seem to match the music exactly?

A: The visuals and haptics are an artistic interpretation of the music's content (beat, dynamics, mood). They are meant to help you follow the shape of the music, and are not guaranteed to match the audio frame by frame.

Requirements

  • iOS 16.0 or later
  • iPhone or iPad
  • Haptic vibration requires a real device with a Taptic Engine (not supported in the Simulator)
